June 15, 2025 -- Please NO July 4th Fireworks! We respectfully request no fireworks in The Notch due to dangerous fire risk. Our neighbor to the east and south, Saguaro National Park, instituted Stage 2 fire restriction on May 12 prohibiting "anything that produces a flame or spark." Pima County also instituted Stage 2 fire restrictions on May 20 prohibiting "consumer fireworks" on county-owned property. Our extreme drought conditions and risk are the same as theirs. Instead, please enjoy fireworks at eastside locations of Forty Niners Country Club or Tucson Speedway, both of which have Pima County fireworks display permits. Fireworks, while festive for many, can have serious unintended consequences for veterans with PTSD and for our animals. The sudden loud bangs and flashes can trigger traumatic memories in veterans, causing anxiety, panic attacks or flashbacks. Pets and wildlife often react with fear and stress, resulting in injury or frantic escape attempts. Planning quieter celebrations or informing neighbors in advance can help create a more enjoyable holiday for all. The Notch is private land so if you are committed to setting off fireworks, use the highest levels of fire safety, confine all discharge and fallout to your own property, and be courteous to do so between 8:30 and 10pm on July 4 to minimize impact on others adversely affected.
